The cell phone or mobile telephone was first introduced by Motorola in the early 1990s. Since then, mobile phone networks have been established across the world and the devices themselves have become significantly cheaper.
Early cell phones only had one function, namely making and receiving phone calls. Today, however, cell phones have a variety of uses and are much faster than they were in the beginning. Today, sending text messages or SMS (Short Message Service) is extremely common, especially among the younger generations. Text messages are short messages, less than 160 characters, that can be sent from one mobile device to another. Cell phones are much more advanced though. You can use many cell phones to surf the web, send and receive emails and play games. Cell phones can also be used as a navigation device, as an MP3 player and for business purposes.
The cell phone has many advantages that a normal landline telephone does not have. Most importantly, you can take it with you wherever you go. You can also find really cost effective phone plans which makes this a very useful tool. It’s a great way to keep in touch with people. If you’re going to be late for a meeting, all you have to do is pick up your cell phone and make a quick call!
